An easy project for Christmas is this bag which is a modified version of an existing pattern. I used two different types of yarn: acrylic (multi-color and purple) and fur novelty yarn. Also, instead of a normal bag handle, I used a simple dog chain.

The photo below shows the furry yarn that my mother bought from the Ukay-ukay shop. (“Ukay-ukay” (literally “dig-dig”) are bargain shops where second-hand or surplus clothes, bags, shoes, books and other items are sold.)

I mixed this fur novelty yarn with purple acrylic yarn. If you have tried using novelty yarn such as this, it is usually easier to crochet when you mix them with regular yarn or threads.

Here is the pattern that I used. It is from a Japanese crochet magazine. Feel free to modify patterns in order to create new designs.

The bag has a pleated middle section. I kept the pleats in place with pins and then worked the next row of single crochet over the pleated edge in order to secure it. The flap pf the bag (the fur yarn and acrylic combination) follows after two rows of dc (the dc row makes it easier for the flap to fold).
